Thanks Nick. I did not have the routing box checked. It is installing as we speak.

It has been a long time since I set up a DC. I passed my 2000 MCSA tests about 10 years ago. The last time I worked on a DC was about 8 years ago so I am a little rusty.

I am actually setting up a lab for a book on Group Policy and then will move on to the 2008 track. So more than likely will set up a DC a couple times.

A lot has changed since the 2000 track.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Patrick, did you install and configure the correct Windows 2003 role on your DC? To get the routing setup correctly you will want to install the Routing / VPN role and then select the NAT configuration option. You can then select the NIC that is connected to your PC as the public interface and the Virtual LAN NIC as the private interface.
Then on all your clients inside the Virtual LAN network, set their gateway address to be the IP of the Virtual LAN NIC on the DC, this should route all traffic on the LAN via the DC and allow you to have an isolated testing network that still has full internet access (as all internet access goes via the DC).

Hopefully this helps a bit, let me know how you get on! :)

I found this very useful article. However I am having trouble getting the internet working on the clients from my domain controller.

I added an additional nic card on the DC using NAT as you suggested but haven’t been able to get the internet to work on the clients. The internet works fine on the domain controller.

I did use a workaround by adding additional nics to each of the 3 clients using NAT. But sure would like to get it working with just one nic on the DC.

Any suggestions on this would be appreciated.
Thanks!
